About The Position

WHP is seeking motivated applicants for the position of Trooper II to fill vacancies across Wyoming. The WHP Trooper II enforces the laws of the State of Wyoming through primary contact with the public and has statewide jurisdiction. This position offers a: $2,000 Hiring Bonus. Requirements

  • Applicant must possess an Advanced Peace Officer Certification or higher through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training Commission (P.O.S.T.) or equivalent from another state as recognized by Wyoming P.O.S.T. that is based on years of service and training hours.
  • High School Diploma /GED/ or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of work experience working with the public, which includes 1-2 years as a certified law enforcement officer in Wyoming or equivalent in another state, or as a Trooper with Wyoming Highway Patrol.
  • Applicant must possess the Advanced POST certification through the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission or equivalent certification through another state.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • Have a visual acuity of, or be correctable, to 20/20 or better.
  • All applicants must bring a photo ID (driver's license).
  • Applicants are required to successfully pass the Public Safety Testing process before attending the testing in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
  • Applicants must complete a program of initial training at the Wyoming Highway Patrol Academy and pass a series of tests, including a written, oral, physical, psychological, polygraph or equivalent examination, and drug test, as provided before the appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with traffic law enforcement, crash investigations, citizen assistance, executive or dignitary protection, safety awareness activities/promotion, and public speaking.
  • Ensure excellent communication skills with the public, peers, chain of command, and internal and external stakeholders in all situations.
  • Anticipate and adapt to continuously changing situations and maintain self-control under stressful situations. This includes working alone while making sound decisions at a moment's notice.
  • Administer first/medical aid.
  • Other duties include court appearances, criminal interdiction, commercial vehicle enforcement, education, and other tasks as assigned.
