Trimmer Trainee | Redwood City, CA
About The Position
This position involves trimming and removing trees, as well as removing unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to ensure the health and safety of trees and surrounding areas. The role offers the opportunity to learn new skills, including climbing trees, and to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully. You will work as a member of a tree crew, learn tree identification, industry pruning guidelines, how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems, and assist in the removal of hazardous trees. Proper maintenance, preparation, and operation of tools and equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts are also key responsibilities.
Requirements
- Love of the outdoors
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
Nice To Haves
- Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
- Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
Responsibilities
- Learn to climb trees
- Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
- Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients
- Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
- Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
- Assist in removal of hazardous trees
- Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more
