Tribal Victim Advocate
About The Position
The Victim Advocate will be responsible for responding to and providing direct services and advocacy to those victimized by Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking, who reside in the rural tribal lands of the Cahuilla, Los Coyotes, Santa Rosa and Torres Martinez reservations or within the surrounding urban areas. Additionally, the Victim Advocate will research and obtain resource-connections, networking with outside referral services and stakeholders, while simultaneously providing direct service support to Tribal victims. The VA will be focused on providing services that may include obtaining emergency shelter or medical care, emergency contact with law enforcement and restraining order assistance, providing basic necessities, such as access to food, clothing, toiletries, transportation to obtain services, and all other necessary emergency and transitional supports that will assist the survivor toward healing and resiliency. The VA will work primarily in the field, with office hours set at one of the CCVAP office sites. Mobile field work and being able to transport victims to services throughout the service area is key to assisting victims at varying stages of crisis, from initial incident to resiliency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- California 40-Hour Advocacy Certificate in Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, or Sexual Assault.
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals or families affected by domestic/family violence, assault, or other crimes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and cloud tools (SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and a caseload.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build rapport and collaborate across community and agency partners.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to assess situations and respond proactively.
- Understanding of historical, social, and environmental dynamics affecting rural tribal communities.
- Detail-oriented case file management.
- Capacity to handle emotionally stressful situations and maintain professional boundaries.
- Successful completion of an extensive law-enforcement background check.
- Negative drug screen.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
- TB test showing negative for infectious tuberculosis (may be required).

Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one, trauma-informed advocacy and crisis intervention to clients of all ages.
- Respond to hotline and referral calls; serve on rotating on-call coverage (up to one week per month; includes weekdays, nights, weekends).
- Develop individualized safety and action plans and assist clients in accessing emergency shelter, medical care, legal protections (e.g., restraining orders), and other urgent needs.
- Provide case management and maintain accurate case notes and client records in program database.
- Transport clients to appointments, court, shelter, and other services as needed.
- Maintain and expand resource and referral networks with Tribal, county, and community providers.
- Coordinate with Consortium staff to document program deliverables and report outcomes.
- Assist in developing and delivering education, outreach, prevention, and awareness materials and activities.
- Support stakeholder trainings and survivor-focused therapeutic activities.
- Prepare proposals, invoices, reimbursement requests, and credit card reconciliations as required.
- Follow program grant requirements, SOPs, confidentiality policies, crisis protocols, and reporting procedures.
- Attend required meetings and mandated trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
