About The Position

Responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to monitor Tribal client grant expenses for validity, allowance, and appropriate application and ensuring accurate and timely grant reporting, drawdowns, and indirect cost recovery.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. (Extensive accounting experience may be substituted for degree requirement)
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting in addition to degree requirement.
  • At least one (1) full years’ experience in fund accounting in addition to degree requirements.
  • Travel is common for this position, therefore, must have reliable transportation, an active driver’s license, and valid automobile insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with accounting for Federal grants a plus.
  • Experience with Native American Tribal Accounting a plus.
  • CPA a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Occasional supervision, training, and mentoring may be required to assist Tribal Accountants, Interns, Clerks, and new employees.
  • Analyze financial information to verify expenses are valid, documented correctly, and assigned to the appropriate fund/grant.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all revenue and expenses are allowable for the grant and work with accountants and/or client to reclass as necessary.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Maintain grant files in accordance with industry standards.
  • Reconcile and prepare summary grant reports not less than monthly as needed for drawdowns.
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met, monthly, quarterly, and annually or as specified in the grant award document and/or attachments.
  • Review and maintain monthly indirect cost recoveries.
  • Deal with clients on a regular basis including explaining grant rules and regulations, OMB Circulars, answering client questions, and assisting with grant applications and budgets.
  • Respond timely to requests from client’s auditors and work with them to accomplish a timely year end audit.
  • Compile information requested by client’s engaged audit firm.
  • Prepare monthly accrued deferred entries.
  • Prepare final year end indirect cost worksheet, accrued deferred entry and SEFA for grants.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
