About The Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for overseeing all accounting functions. PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Our focus on healthy living is carried out through our network of fitness centers. Our focus on youth development is carried out through our before and after care programs (school age children), early learning centers (preschool children), summer camps and at-risk youth programs. Our focus on social responsibility is primarily carried out through our 2 million+ meals a year food program serving at-risk and food insecure children across the Mid-South. The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-south currently has the largest YMCA food program in the United States. Through it and our other programs, we are making an impact on our community and are seeking a full-time Grant Accountant to join our team. The Grant Accountant position will work closely with other members of the accounting department and program managers with a focus on recording, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and various analysis functions for the organization awarded grants.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in accounting required or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions preferred.
  • Experience in data entry with working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grant related post award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, reporting, reconciliations, and grant closeout function requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of grants and contributions with standard ASC – 606, internal policies/procedures and donor rules/regulations.
  • Understand specific grant requirements, ensure compliance with contract conditions and assurances, ensure reporting requirements are met.
  • Review invoices and provide account codes, when appropriate for proper accounting.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reimbursement requests.
  • Maintain spreadsheets to track revenue and expenses by grant.
  • Maintain an efficient electronic and paper filing system for financial records.
  • Assist with annual audits.
  • Assist with month-end close activities/prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Perform other duties/projects as assigned.
