About The Position

The Tribal Government Safety and Compliance Specialist will coordinate, track, and oversee safety and regulatory training programs for Tribal Government facilities and worksites. This role involves conducting safety reviews, identifying compliance gaps, and implementing corrective actions. The specialist will also be responsible for managing safety-related documentation, analyzing workplace incidents, and staying updated on relevant laws and regulations. Collaboration with leadership to mitigate hazards and ensure emergency preparedness is a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of [2–5] years of experience in safety, compliance, or risk management.
  • Knowledge of safety compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and translate them into practical workplace procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety/compliance tracking systems.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and comply with the requirements of the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Tribal Government, public sector, or multi-entity organizations preferred.
  • Professional certification such as OSHA 30, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST, or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, track, and oversee safety training programs, including orientation, ongoing training, and specialized topics (e.g., hazard communication, emergency response).
  • Coordinate, track, and oversee regulatory training and offerings to include Hazardous Waste, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Workplace Violence Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Hep-B offering, etc.
  • Conduct regular safety reviews and risk assessments across Tribal Government facilities and worksites.
  • Identify compliance gaps related to use of required PPE, jobsite safety, and other workplace safety standards, making recommendations and implementing appropriate corrections.
  • Attend monthly Safety Committee meetings presented by the Risk and Safety Department, disseminate the information presented, and ensure it is delivered to all Tribal Government departments.
  • Maintain, update, and distribute all forms required by the Risk and Safety Department programs.
  • Assist leaders and employees in filling out required forms and ensuring they are returned appropriately and timely.
  • Review workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare root-cause analysis reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct “reasonable suspicion” reviews in accordance with established Risk processes, training, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations, making recommendations accordingly.
  • Review, update, audit, and communicate emergency preparedness and response plans.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
