About The Position

Syngenta Seeds is a leading global developer and producer of seeds, dedicated to improving crop quality and yields through innovative hybrid varieties and biotech crops. Headquartered in the United States, Syngenta aims to foster a collaborative team that provides top-quality seeds and crop protection solutions to farmers. The Operations & Trialing Team is actively seeking a Trialing Specialist Technician, ideally based in Fort Wayne, IN. This role is crucial for delivering high-quality field trial data through precise note collection and effective trial execution for corn and soybean crops. The technician will support local trialing efforts to develop superior products and assist the Trialing Manager in continuously innovating and optimizing field trial management. This is an annual position, with the assignment running from March 1st to November 30th. While Fort Wayne, IN, is the optimal support location, the role can also be supported remotely from Central-Northern Indiana, Northwest Ohio, or Central-Southern Michigan.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be already located in the United States and not require visa sponsorship now or in the future (Includes OPT).
  • Experience with precision agriculture equipment and software systems.
  • Knowledge of multiple crops that are tested in trialing (corn and soy).
  • Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that impact trial data precision and accuracy.
  • Understanding and demonstrated use of modern agronomic practices.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently and work well as part of a team.
  • Active driver's license with a clean record.
  • Ability to acquire a medical DOT card.
  • Commercial pesticide applicator's license holder or ability to acquire one.
  • Drone experience or ability to acquire a drone license.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with area cooperators.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in an agriculture-related discipline or relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Function as an integral member of a team responsible for the full range of seasonal activities related to conducting yield trials including but not limited to planning, actively communicating, packaging, planting, note-taking, and harvest.
  • Evaluate and secure quality yield trial land in the desired testing area.
  • Act as a source of information on yield trialing processes and protocols.
  • Supervise third-party contract labor to assist with planting, phenotyping, and harvest.
  • Lead projects with impact both on and across stations and sites and provide formal or informal guidance, training, and support to other team members.
  • Provide input to development of new process protocols and standards.
  • Effectively communicate regularly with Trialing Manager regarding the status of projects and work activities.
  • Operate tractors for planting research plots.
  • Operate research combines for data collection.
