About The Position

This position collaborates with the Kitchen Manager to develop menus and recipes and is responsible for both routine and specialized food preparation, including scratch cooking. The role requires strong customer service skills, as it involves regular interaction with guests and the ability to provide information about food preparation and Treehaven programs. In the absence of the Kitchen Manager, this position may serve as the kitchen leader, overseeing staff and ensuring smooth operations during shifts. This position requires flexibility and the ability to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Full position description is available upon request. Department: Treehaven is a residential education, research and conference facility that is a part of the College of Natural Resources (CNR). It is located between Rhinelander and Tomahawk, WI, resting on a glacial ridge overlooking 1,400 acres of forest and wetlands. Treehaven is home to the CNR’s 6-week summer field experience. The College of Natural Resources has approximately 1,500 undergraduates in natural resource programs with disciplines in Fisheries and Water Resources, Forestry, Environment and Society, Soil and Waste Resources, Wildlife Ecology, and the Department of Paper Science and Chemical Engineering. Each year, Treehaven staff serve several thousand people who attend college courses, public workshops, school programs, and business gatherings. Compensation & Benefits: The Treehaven Cook is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt, university staff position. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting rate between $15.00 - $17.72 per hour commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications. Requirements

  • Ability to push or pull wheeled carts weighing up to 100#
  • Ability to lift cases of food products weighing up to 50#
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50# when storing, stocking, and rotating.
  • Ability to read and interpret recipe information and production sheets.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all staff members and the larger community of those we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Trains and guides student workers
