About The Position

This is an on-site position requiring a minimum of four days per week at Reston Association’s Central Services Facility. At Reston Association (RA), we're committed to enhancing the quality of life for Reston residents through outstanding programs, exceptional services, and dedicated stewardship of the community's natural and recreational resources. We are seeking a Tree Care Technician to join our Natural Areas team. This entry-level position supports the stewardship of Reston Association land by assisting with tree care, vegetation management, invasive species control, and natural area maintenance activities. Working alongside experienced staff, the Tree Care Technician helps maintain safe and healthy landscapes for members and visitors while gaining valuable hands-on experience in arboriculture and natural resource management. The Tree Care Technician assists with tree pruning and removals, operates and maintains equipment such as chainsaws, brush chippers, trimmers, and hand tools, and supports crews by moving brush, hauling debris, and maintaining safe work sites. Additional responsibilities include supporting natural area restoration projects, participating in monthly brush chipping programs, responding professionally to member inquiries, and assisting with storm response and snow removal activities. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, learning new skills, and building a career in tree care, forestry, landscaping, or natural resource management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to two years of experience in tree care, landscaping, grounds maintenance, forestry, parks maintenance, construction, or related outdoor work preferred but not required.
  • Experience operating chainsaws, brush chippers, trailers, or similar equipment preferred.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in arboriculture, forestry, landscaping, or natural resource management.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with tree care, vegetation management, invasive species control, and natural area maintenance activities.
