About The Position

The Assistant Plant Operator performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater treatment plant. This position is authorized to drive a city vehicle and is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess a minimum of Class C Wastewater License
  • Possess a minimum of Class C Water License
  • Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator
  • The ability to obtain the above licenses within the time frame allotted per state regulations
  • Minimum two years experience in water or wastewater utilities
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written communications
  • Ability to operate commercial telephones and a two-way radio
  • Ability to operate a variety of moderate to light power-driven equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manuals
  • Ability to perform duties for extended periods of time in extreme weather
  • Ability to maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing, bending or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others and operating assigned equipment and vehicles
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects and materials up to 100 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties of crew members as required
  • Prioritizes repairs and maintenance projects to be completed
  • Inspects and maintains treatment plant equipment
  • Conducts quality control samples on water and wastewater
  • Completes and maintains required reports
  • Maintains work areas in an orderly fashion by cleaning, sweeping, etc
  • Monitors the treatment operation including adjusting flows, adjusting chemical input, monitoring gauges, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as required
