About The Position

The role of the Treating Plant Lab Technician is to test treated poles for retention and identify and inspect materials to insure they confirm to company standards, in a safe manner following company procedures.

Requirements

Must be able to operate a forklift
Be able to handle and move hazardous waste drums
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

Extensive hours/overtime and weekends may be mandatory as well as unexpected shift changes. Attendance is extremely important to the function of the Treating Department

Responsibilities

Change treatment charges, identify and inspect material for conformance
Drill charges after each treatment and test for retention in a timely manner
Test dry wood for moisture content
Test CCA wood preservative upon delivery
Count charges and pull tags prior to each treatment
Put tags on treated material after each treatment and insure piece count
Assist in clean-up of Treating Plant - sweeping, shoveling, wash down
Maintain annual Training requirements for Hazardous waste
Maintain accurate record keeping of treating paperwork
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Must be able to operate a forklift
Be able to handle and move hazardous waste drums
Follow all area/machine center specific safety regulations
Wear all required personal protective equipment: hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety vest, etc...as required
Do not enter restricted areas
Report immediately to supervisor any piece of equipment that is unsafe or functioning improperly
Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge
Visually inspect equipment and area before starting/operating
Whenever possible, eliminate unsafe conditions as soon as possible
Use Standard Lockout Procedures when appropriate for machine centers
Use proper lifting technique by pushing, pulling and lifting with your legs and not your back
Follow all other safety regulations as set forth by the company handbook
