About The Position

The City of Alexandria Finance Department seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Treasury Accountant I to join the Treasury Division. This position supports the collection, reconciliation, reporting, and safeguarding of City revenues while providing exceptional customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors. The Treasury Accountant I performs professional accounting, reconciliation, research, and customer service work involving real estate taxes, personal property taxes, business taxes, parking citations, cashiering operations, banking activities, payment processing, and related financial systems. The position operates in a fast-paced environment with significant public interaction and strict deadlines, particularly during tax due dates and major billing cycles.

Requirements

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience researching and resolving financial discrepancies.
  • Experience performing account reconciliations and financial analysis.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, filtering and data analysis.
  • Ability to learn multiple financial and treasury systems.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and professionally.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Experience in local government finance, treasury, banking, accounting, revenue collection, or accounts receivable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform account, bank, payment, and tax system reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies and taxpayer inquiries.
  • Analyze financial transactions and prepare reports.
  • Assist with personal property and real estate tax refund reviews and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with Accounting regarding journal entries and financial reporting.
  • Treasury customer support to taxpayers in-person, mail, phone, and email.
  • Assist with cashiering, payment processing, banking, lockbox, and treasury operations.
  • Utilize systems including Munis, RCS, RBS, RevOne, UPsafety, banking platforms, and related applications.
  • Participate in testing, implementation, and improvement of financial systems and processes.
