About The Position

This role is responsible for operating tray machines to ensure quality products are achieved at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards, and to ensure all safety procedures are followed. Team members are expected to act in accordance with the company's shared Core Values and Operating Principles, including being Trustworthy, Servant-Hearted, Relational, and Resourceful. The position involves setting up and maintaining machines, following all checklist procedures, keeping parts organized, and observing safety procedures at all times. The operator is responsible for meeting production requirements, maintaining assigned equipment, and communicating any needs for additional tools or equipment that would enhance efficiency and safety. They must also follow instructions on work jackets, ensure necessary supplies are available, and maintain the quality of the product, packaging, labeling, and stocking. This includes verifying correct viscosity, color, shading, contrast, straining, and ink usage. The role also involves accurately counting and tagging pallet loads, entering data to the production report, and adhering to the Pallet Stacking Manual regarding stacking arrangements, number of layers, and height requirements. The operator will communicate with stock pullers to move full pallets and set up new ones. Calculating scrap rate to ensure jobs stay within allowable limits and communicating effectively with other team members are also key responsibilities. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn, and team members should welcome updates and improvements to processes, following new procedures and innovations that enhance efficiency and safety. The goal is to perform work in a manner that minimizes downtime, maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems, and follow all safety-related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines, utilizing situational awareness to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions. Team members may also be asked to assist with duties in other areas or departments.

Requirements

  • Experience operating a tray machine, preferably in a folding carton environment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical ability and skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read a tape measure, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
  • Regular attendance and reporting for work on time.
  • Availability for overtime work if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Operates tray machines as directed to meet production requirements.
  • Sets up machine in a consistent manner as instructed in the training program, maintaining procedures unless changed and recorded.
  • Follows all checklist procedures fully.
  • Keeps all parts in their proper place and recommends replacement or repair of worn parts by filling out the designated form.
  • Observes safety procedures at all times.
  • Responsible for all equipment and tools assigned, and notifies the supervisor of any additional tools or equipment that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
  • Follows all instructions issued on the work jacket and advises the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information necessary for proper set-up and operation.
  • Keeps all necessary supplies available to the operator to ensure an efficient operation.
  • Responsible for the quality of the product, packaging, labeling, and stocking.
  • Responsible for the quality of product manufactured concerning correct viscosity, color, shading, contrast, straining, and ink used.
  • Ensures that pallet loads are accurately counted, tagged, and entered to the production report.
  • Follows the stacking arrangement, number of layers, and height requirement for each case size from the Pallet Stacking Manual.
  • Calls the stock puller on the paging system to move a full pallet.
  • Places a new pallet down by the machine once the previous one is moved.
  • Calculates scrap rate to assure job stays within allowable limits.
  • Communicates well with other team members.
  • Wears appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
