Traveling Railcar Repair Technician
About The Position
Transco Rail Services, a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings (backed by Berkshire Hathaway), is seeking a Traveling Railcar Technician. This role involves covering other sites in the Midwest region for employees on leave or vacation. Transco Rail Services, along with Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) and Procor, provides full-service railcar repair and maintenance across North America. The Railcar Technician will conduct all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety, compliance, quality, and reliable service. The position requires meeting customer expectations, completing clerical tasks related to invoicing and work orders, and maintaining certifications, including tank car welding and familiarity with AAR rules and regulations. Other work-related tasks may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have mechanical aptitude, ability to problem-solve and to make decisions.
- Ability to use hand tools (such as pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets, and other equipment to chip and grind weld slag or spatter).
- Must handle and successfully complete basic railcar repairs and inspections.
- Consistently demonstrate skill in customer relations, using good interpersonal skills and be able to work as a part of a team.
- Ongoing improvement in skill and knowledge of railcar repairs.
- Must work in all types of weather conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Legally can work in US now & future without sponsorship (preferred).

Responsibilities
- Conducts all aspects of repair and maintenance on tank cars.
- Conducts railcar inspections to ensure cars are in compliance and performs repairs as necessary.
- Meets the expectations and requirements of all customers to ensure their satisfaction of work.
- Ensures that all necessary invoicing, inspection, and work order information is complete.
- Maintains all certifications, including tank car welding, and demonstrates strong familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
- Performs other work-related tasks as assigned.
