Our Traveling Paint Booth & Maintenance Technician plays a critical behind-the-scenes role in that reputation — traveling between shops to keep the paint booths and equipment that power every repair running safely and efficiently. Position Summary: The Traveling Paint Booth & Maintenance Technician keeps Kniesel’s Collision’s shops running by traveling to locations throughout Northern California to inspect, maintain, and repair paint booths and other essential facility equipment. This role ensures every shop stays safe, compliant, and fully operational, directly supporting the high-quality collision repairs our customers count on. Working closely with shop managers, this technician balances hands-on equipment work with clear documentation and proactive communication, making it a great fit for a self-motivated problem-solver who enjoys variety and independence in their day-to-day work.

Requirements

  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and HVAC troubleshooting skills, or a strong interest in learning
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools to perform inspections and minor repairs
  • Ability to read and understand written estimates, work orders, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Strong attention to detail with an emphasis on accurate documentation and service records
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with shop teams
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities across multiple locations
  • Must be able to read English fluently
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver’s license required for regular travel between locations
  • Maintains a well-groomed, professional appearance
  • Ability to lift and move boxes, parts, and equipment up to 20 pounds
  • Comfortable climbing, bending, kneeling, and reaching to access and service equipment
  • Requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and full range of body motion
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Comfortable working around fumes, dust, and shop equipment typical of an automotive paint environment
  • Comfortable driving and traveling regularly between shop locations, sometimes for extended periods
  • Maintains professionalism and composure in a fast-paced, multi-site work environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of paint booths to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety regulations
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot paint booth issues, including ventilation, filtration, and temperature control systems
  • Replace filters, clean exhaust systems, and perform minor repairs as needed to maintain operational efficiency
  • Travel regularly to assigned Kniesel’s Collision locations, ensuring all maintenance needs are addressed promptly and efficiently
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules with shop managers to minimize disruption to daily operations
  • Respond to urgent maintenance requests to address equipment failures or safety concerns
  • Ensure all equipment meets OSHA and other applicable safety standards
  • Document all maintenance activities and maintain detailed service records for each shop
  • Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements to enhance efficiency and safety
  • Assist with ad-hoc tasks, cross-departmental projects, or other duties as assigned to support the maintenance team and broader business needs
