This role requires expertise in large count ribbon fiber splicing and testing. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the installation and maintenance of our fiber optic networks, ensuring high-quality connections and reliable performance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certification in fiber optics preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in outside plant fiber splicing, with a focus on large count ribbon fiber.
  • Proven experience with fiber splicing tools and testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optic network design and installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and physical environments.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 certification and railroad right-of-way experience is a plus.
  • MOS Codes V80B, B05A, 3D157, 6423, 5699 relate well to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform large count ribbon fiber splicing in both outdoor and indoor environments.
  • Conduct optical testing and troubleshooting using appropriate testing equipment (OTDR, power meters, etc.).
  • Collaborate with installation crews to plan and execute installation projects efficiently.
  • Follow industry best practices for fiber handling, splicing, and testing.
  • Ensure work complies with safety standards and regulations.
  • Document all splicing and testing results accurately for project records.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of fiber optic network infrastructure.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
  • Travel to various job sites as required, often with short notice.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Fiber engineer knowledge of fiber design, reading documentation, understanding of light levels and dB loss.
  • Work in outdoor utility construction sites.
