PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: As a Travelling Mechanic you will be a member of a team working in a high production environment performing preventative, corrective maintenance, mechanical repairs and maintenance of roadway equipment across a vast territory that includes CPKC’s Southern network. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, enjoys working outdoors and frequent travel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • 5 years of heavy-duty mechanical work experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Commercial driver’s license
  • Must be qualified in repairing and overhauling gasoline and diesel engines
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of Engineering field operations
  • Knowledge of General Code of Operating Rules
  • Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of technical training is a bonus

Responsibilities

  • Performs mechanical repairs and maintenance of roadway equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Repair and test equipment such as production tie and rail machines, spikers, spike pullers, production tampers, ballast regulators, speed swings, loaders and skid steers and backhoes, tie cranes, tie inserters, etc
  • Trouble shoot and repair of hydraulic systems (electric over hydraulic and air over hydraulic)
  • Lift and carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Specialize in repairing roadway maintenance equipment, focusing on hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, driveline, and drive systems
  • Using a variety of manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools, as well as welders and cutting torches, to perform/verify maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
  • 60% travel across the system working directly with railway systems for multifaceted locations
