About The Position

The Traveler Support and Wellness Coordinator for Global Programs plays a key role in ensuring that students, faculty and staff participating in university-affiliated international travel are well-prepared, supported, and cared for throughout their experience abroad. Under the general direction of the Assistant Director for Global Health and Safety, this position focuses on student health, behavioral conduct, and adjustment challenges while abroad. The Coordinator provides guidance, resources, and direct support to students, faculty, and staff to promote positive and safe global learning experiences. Serves as one of two designated staff members responsible for providing 24/7 support via the Global Travel Emergency Line, ensuring timely assistance for students and university-affiliated travelers experiencing health, conduct, safety, or adjustment-related issues abroad.

Requirements

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree, with at least one year of related experience.
  • Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position.
  • Candidates must also demonstrate ability to navigate through complex institutional processes to ensure individuals have access to resources and support despite structural challenges.
  • Initiative and responsibility in tackling emergent issues, anticipating problems and brainstorming solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize and organize workflow.
  • Skill with digital organizing and data management; the willingness to learn new applications and systems and adapt them as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate patience and understanding.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in effectively conveying information to individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Ability to compose clear, grammatically correct, well-constructed correspondence, reports, and informational materials.

Responsibilities

  • Student Travel Preparation and Support: Coordinates the student international travel registration process, ensuring students register and are informed and supported throughout. Provide pre-departure orientations focused on health, wellness, cultural adjustment, and behavioral expectations. Assist students in accessing international health insurance and wellness resources. Serve as a liaison to students, faculty, and staff regarding safety, health, conduct, and adjustment concerns related to international travel. Maintain relationships with campus and external partners to ensure students receive accurate and timely support abroad. Manages the Pre-Departure Training registration process and actively monitors student progress to ensure timely completion. Provides follow-up communication and support to students who require assistance or reminders to fulfill training requirements. Supervises a student assistant who provides administrative and logistical support for monitoring Pre-Departure Training completion and managing international travel registration processes for students and business travelers.
  • Health, Wellness, and Adjustment Support: Collaborate with Student Health Services, Counseling Services, and other campus units to support students’ physical and mental well-being abroad. Provide outreach and guidance to students experiencing an array of issues including but not limited to adjustment difficulties, roommate disputes, or health-related concerns while overseas. Support the development and implementation of wellness protocols and conduct guidelines for students abroad. Maintain communication with students and faculty to monitor well-being and provide early intervention when needed. Document and report incidents related to student health, conduct, adjustment challenges or other incidents abroad.
  • Student Conduct and Incident Response: Serve as a first responder for incidents abroad, including behavioral issues, health emergencies, or adjustment crises. Serve as a case manager coordinating with university officials, families, and international partners to support students in distress. Assist in managing interventions, referrals, or repatriation efforts when necessary. Maintain records and data related to student incidents and outcomes.
  • Training and Outreach: Contribute to workshops and training sessions focused on student wellness, cultural adjustment, and behavioral expectations abroad. Develop materials and resources to help students navigate challenges during their international experience. Monitors and tracks completion of required training for both faculty and students participating in international travel, providing guidance and reminders to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Support additional student-focused initiatives within USF World Global Learning as needed.
