About The Position

This is a 13-week contract position for a Travel RN specializing in Mother Baby care. The role involves performing an age-specific plan of care for designated patients using the nursing process. The RN will collaborate with physicians and other health team members, utilizing leadership skills and clinical judgment to coordinate patient care and direct the activities of the patient care unit team.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in the related specialty.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut, required.
  • BLS required.
  • Essentials NRP certification required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient’s physiologic health status, including conducting patient interviews, explaining policies and procedures, reviewing charts, assessing various body systems, determining mobility and skin condition, assessing pain levels, and communicating/documenting findings.
  • Assesses the patient’s psychosocial health status, including eliciting perceptions of care, determining coping mechanisms, identifying cultural/ethnic requirements, and communicating/documenting psychological status and care plans.
  • Identifies patient outcomes by developing criteria for measurement, identifying actual/potential patient problems, assessing teaching needs, and developing patient outcome statements and goals.
  • Formulates the plan of care and establishes priorities necessary to achieve expected outcomes, including identifying care activities, coordinating cost-effective use of resources, and documenting the plan of care in collaboration with physicians and other health team members.
  • Implements the plan of care by maintaining patient safety, exercising professional skills, reassessing patients, administering treatments, correctly using equipment, providing emotional support, applying scientific principles, making accurate observations, documenting patient status and responses, acting effectively in emergencies, providing a calm atmosphere, participating in discharge planning, and providing discharge instructions.
  • Evaluates care provided for patient outcomes by demonstrating ability to measure effectiveness, performing variance analysis, designing/implementing/evaluating systems to improve care, keeping accurate documentation, and using appropriate documentation methods.
  • Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens, including collaborating with physicians, implementing prescribed treatments, assisting physicians, keeping management/physicians informed of patient changes, and using clinical judgment in delegating assignments.
  • Performs grade I-IV Decubitus Care, including performing preventive skin care measures, applying dressings, compresses, and irrigations, and performing other related procedures.
  • Administers medications correctly and safely, including identifying medication details, meeting medication administration standards, demonstrating preparation of solutions and IV drips, administering and documenting medications correctly, and educating patients on drug and food interactions.
  • Participates in patient and family education by explaining conditions, communicating assessment data, recognizing teaching opportunities, providing discharge planning and referrals, and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
