About The Position

The Travel Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory care across multiple settings, supports patient care planning, and collaborates with care teams to achieve optimal outcomes. The Travel Respiratory Care Practitioner performs therapeutic, diagnostic, and life-support respiratory care procedures for patients across the continuum of care, including acute, critical care, and home care settings as applicable. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates respiratory care services to support optimal patient outcomes for assigned patient populations. Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement, and revise individualized plans of care. Administers respiratory treatments and medications in accordance with physician orders, clinical protocols, and department standards. Provides patient and family education related to respiratory conditions, treatments, equipment, and self-management strategies. Demonstrates clinical expertise in rapidly changing patient situations and responds appropriately to emergent respiratory care needs. Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and operational effectiveness. Functions as a clinical resource and role model for respiratory care staff, students, and other healthcare professionals. Supports departmental operations through effective resource management, prioritization of patient care activities, and problem resolution. Assists with orientation, training, competency development, and ongoing education of staff and students. Participates in departmental, hospital, and organizational committees, projects, and initiatives to support professional practice and continuous improvement. Maintains required competencies and pursues ongoing professional development to support evidence-based respiratory care practice.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) accredited program required.
  • None (Experience)
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Virginia Board of Medicine required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
