About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse to work a 14-week assignment on Mother/Baby. This role requires some on-call duty, specifically two 12-hour shifts per 6-week period. The Mother-Baby Unit is a 30-bed unit where nurses assess patients, ensure proper healing, and provide self-care education to new mothers during their post-partum stay. The unit promotes rooming-in for mothers and their newborns. The Mom-Baby Nurse is responsible for assessing the newborn, ensuring feeding and swaddling, and educating the new mother on proper infant care.

Requirements

Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
NRP
Two or more years of current Mother/Baby hospital RN experience
Experience with High Risk Newborns
Experience with Magnesium drips
Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or diploma in the Nursing Field

Responsibilities

Assess new mothers during their post-partum stay.
Ensure proper healing is occurring.
Provide self-care education to new mothers.
Assess the newborn.
Educate new mothers on proper infant care.
