About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Temporary RN Internal Traveler for their 24 Bed Med/Surg - Hematology Unit on the 5th floor - 5 West. This is a temporary, full-time, 14-week assignment on the night shift. The unit offers care for a wide variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, Stroke, and end-of-life care, with a specialty in chronic blood disorders like Sickle Cell. Nurses will gain experience in procedures such as wound vacs, high-risk medication infusions, telemetry, trach care, chest tubes, and peritoneal dialysis. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 5 to 6:1.

Requirements

Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
NIH Stroke Scale
Two or more years of current acute care hospital RN experience

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care on a 24-bed Med/Surg - Hematology Unit.
Care for patients with a wide variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, Stroke, and end-of-life care.
Specialize in caring for patients with chronic blood disorders such as Sickle Cell.
Become knowledgeable in procedures such as wound vacs, high-risk medication infusions, telemetry, trach care, chest tubes, and peritoneal dialysis.
