About The Position

FlexTrades is seeking skilled Travel MIG Welders for a manufacturing project environment. This role requires candidates who are comfortable traveling for project-based assignments and possess strong fabrication, fit-up, and welding experience. Welders will primarily work with galvanneal and carbon steel materials, completing high-quality weldments from blueprints while maintaining strict quality standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing setting, be proficient in layout and fitting, and have the ability to read and interpret weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings.

Requirements

  • Previous MIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong layout, fitting, and tacking experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols.
  • Experience working with decimals, fractions, and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to hold tolerances between 1/16" and 1/8".
  • Comfortable performing grinding and weld cleanup daily.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments.
  • Candidates must pass an onsite weld test conducted to AWS D1.1 standards.
  • Test Includes: MIG welding on 1/8" material, Horizontal and vertical-down fillet welds, Corner weld, Visual inspection and bend testing by a CWI, 30-minute completion requirement, No retests permitted.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding using .035" and .045" wire with 90/10 shielding gas.
  • Complete layout, fitting, tacking, and fabrication tasks prior to welding.
  • Weld primarily on galvanneal steel and carbon steel components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld drawings, BOMs, and AWS welding symbols.
  • Produce fillet and groove welds in flat, horizontal, and vertical-down positions.
  • Set welding parameters when WPS documentation is unavailable.
  • Verify fit-up tolerances ranging from 1/16" to 1/8".
  • Use weld gauges and measuring tools to ensure quality requirements are met.
  • Perform extensive grinding, cleaning, and weld finishing throughout each shift.
  • Operate overhead cranes and pallet jacks safely.
  • Complete rework as required to meet quality standards.
  • Maintain productivity goals and quality expectations in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
