About The Position
This position involves operating mammography and auxiliary equipment, processing images, and maintaining equipment and required documentation. The technologist will prepare patients for exams, explain procedures in layman's terms, and ensure necessary consent forms are obtained. Responsibilities include performing various x-ray exams according to established standards, positioning patients, adjusting equipment, and monitoring patient condition for any abnormalities. The role also involves processing and maintaining exposed images, labeling films, and ensuring proper identification and tracking of examinations. Related duties as required are also part of the role.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program, required.
- New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration, required.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience performing radiologic exams, required.
Responsibilities
- Prepares patient for exam, relieving anxiety by translating examination into layman's terms and ensuring consent form is obtained if necessary.
- Performs various x-ray exams according to established standards, procedures, and division protocols.
- Positions patient for radiographs according to departmental standard operating procedures.
- Arranges, attaches, or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices for patients.
- Adjusts x-ray equipment and operates controls to obtain correct exposure.
- Monitors patient’s condition in accordance with technical and safety standards.
- Recognizes and promptly reports patient’s motor abnormalities (e.g., fainting, discoloration, contrast reactions) to the Radiologist.
- Keys in Patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from requisition.
- Monitors patient’s condition during the procedure.
- Operates equipment for transferring computed images to film and archival of disc memory to tape.
- Processes and maintains exposed images.
- Labels film for identification and maintains required records.
- Utilizes film markers and ensures images are properly marked as the “right” or “left” side.
- Ensures images are legibly labeled with correct date and patient identification.
- Enters the exam onto the daily log sheet as needed.
- Properly completes the correct tracking steps for each examination.
- Performs related duties, as required.
