About The Position

Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading local provider of contract therapy services dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in schools. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team of professionals, working collaboratively to support students' learning and academic growth within educational settings. We are a therapist- and woman-owned and operated company. This is an in-person position with a highly supportive and collaborative school district that values its team. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education, deaf or Hard of Hearing, or related field.
  • Valid Alaskan Teacher Licensure, along with an endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teaching
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education procedures.
  • Familiarity with hearing technology, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with American Sign Language (ASL), Total Communication, Listening and Spoken Language, or other communication approaches as appropriate for students.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and district onboarding requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with school-aged students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct special education services to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in accordance with IEPs.
  • Develop and implement individualized instructional plans that support language, communication, academic achievement, and self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, interpreters, and related service providers.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, eligibility meetings, and progress reviews.
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom environments to ensure communication access.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and complete required reports.
  • Support students in the use of hearing technology and classroom accommodations.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding strategies for supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and educational planning.
  • Maintain compliance with district policies and federal and state special education regulations.
