Travel In-Person Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
About The Position
Strides Therapy & Educational Services is a leading local provider of contract therapy services dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students in schools. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team of professionals, working collaboratively to support students' learning and academic growth within educational settings. Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education, deaf or Hard of Hearing, or related field.
- Valid Alaskan Teacher Licensure, along with an endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teaching
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and special education procedures.
- Familiarity with hearing technology, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM/DM systems.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with American Sign Language (ASL), Total Communication, Listening and Spoken Language, or other communication approaches as appropriate for students.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and district onboarding requirements.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with school-aged students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct special education services to students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in accordance with IEPs.
- Develop and implement individualized instructional plans that support language, communication, academic achievement, and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, interpreters, and related service providers.
- Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, eligibility meetings, and progress reviews.
- Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and classroom environments to ensure communication access.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and complete required reports.
- Support students in the use of hearing technology and classroom accommodations.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding strategies for supporting students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and educational planning.
- Maintain compliance with district policies and federal and state special education regulations.
