About The Position

This position delivers resident-focused care within the full scope of practice of a HCA, in a home-like environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident/family and co-workers. This includes completing duties such as assisting residents with medication administration, bathing, grooming, dressing, applying treatment creams, assisting in therapeutic activities, and ensuring the daily neatness of residents’ rooms, furniture, clothes closets, mobility devices, tub/washrooms, utility rooms, and kitchen/serveries. The role involves participating in all aspects of personal resident care to ensure the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each resident/family are met, promoting resident independence. The Travel Health Care Aide will deliver effective and efficient care under the direction of the supervisor, promoting resident/family choice and acknowledging resident strengths, limitations, need for safety, and the safety of others. The position also requires participation in multidisciplinary committee work, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. A key aspect of this role is travelling between sites in Alberta.

Requirements

  • Health Care Aide certificate (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
  • CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers required
  • Active enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Clear police information check, with the vulnerable sector, dated within the last 6 months
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, teamwork, organization, and customer service, with a high attention to detail and thoroughness and a demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
  • Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures, and the ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education
  • Valid Class 5 License

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with medication administration, bathing, grooming, dressing, applying treatment creams, assisting in therapeutic activities, and ensure daily, the neatness of residents’ rooms, furniture, clothes closets, mobility devices, tub/washrooms, utility rooms, and kitchen/serveries
  • Participate in all aspects of personal resident care to ensure the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each resident/family are met and so that the resident is as independent as possible
  • Deliver effective and efficient care under the direction of the supervisor that promotes resident/family choice and acknowledges the resident strengths, limitations, as well as their need for safety and the safety of another resident/family and staff
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committee work as required: Care conferences, as directed; Unit meetings, general staff meetings, and HCA meetings
  • Participate in continuing education to ensure skills and abilities are maintained and enhanced
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement of the care unit and associated care services by ongoing collection and documentation of data
  • Travelling between our sites in Alberta.
