About The Position

The Travel Coordinator manages complex travel arrangements for BYU’s international study programs, which serve more than 2,500 students across 200+ programs each year. This position independently coordinates accommodations, ground transportation, educational site visits, and other travel logistics while ensuring vendors meet BYU standards for safety, quality, cost, and compliance. The role serves as a trusted resource to faculty directors, administrators, and staff and maintains strong relationships with travel partners worldwide.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the international travel industry, study abroad programs, or a combination of related experience
  • Experience coordinating complex international travel arrangements
  • Ability to develop and manage program budgets
  • Strong negotiation and vendor relationship management skills
  • Ability to travel independently to meet with and evaluate international vendors
  • Strong intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to train and manage student employees
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex programs and deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in travel or a related field
  • Six or more years of international travel experience, including arranging accommodations, transportation, and educational or sightseeing activities
  • Certification as a British or European travel agent
  • Strong judgment and independent decision-making skills
  • Excellent planning, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong contract and vendor management skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with faculty, administrators, vendors, and international partners
  • Knowledge of international travel practices and industry standards
  • Ability to respond effectively to urgent and changing travel circumstances

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex international travel arrangements, including accommodations, ground transportation, and educational site visits
  • Research, evaluate, and select travel vendors based on safety, quality, service, and cost
  • Partner with faculty directors to develop travel plans that support educational objectives and program budgets
  • Develop and manage program budgets and ensure compliance with university expenditure policies
  • Prepare vendor agreements and coordinate required documentation, approvals, payments, refunds, and credits
  • Collaborate with BYU International Security to support safe and secure international travel
  • Oversee travel arrangements completed by part-time and student employees and provide training, feedback, and performance support
  • Recruit, hire, and train student employees
  • Develop and maintain relationships with international travel vendors and professional organizations
  • Conduct site visits and participate in industry conferences and professional development
