About The Position

Responsible for the collection, abstraction, validation, and submission of trauma patient data in accordance with state and American College of Surgeons (ACS) trauma registry requirements. Maintains trauma registry data integrity, supports trauma performance improvement initiatives, assists with regulatory and verification activities, and prepares reports used to evaluate trauma program outcomes. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma PI Coordinator, physicians, nursing staff, EMS partners, and external agencies to support trauma program goals, injury prevention initiatives, education activities, and trauma verification readiness. Serves as a trauma program resource and contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts across the trauma continuum of care.

Requirements

  • LPN/Paramedic - Successful Completion of LPN or Paramedic Program - Required
  • 2 Years - Nursing or Paramedic Experience - Required
  • LPN/Paramedic - State Licensure in the state of Missouri or Kansas, depending upon designated work location - Required OR Paramedic- State Licensure in the state of Missouri or Kansas, depending upon designated work location - Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 days
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Required within 1 Year
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Required within 1 Year
  • AIS 15 Course - Required within 60 days
  • CAISS - Required within 1 Year
  • ICD-10 Course - Required within 6 months
  • Trauma Registry Course - Required within 30 days
  • Ability to communicate clearly to patients, providers and staff.
  • Must demonstrate precise eye/hand coordination and fine motor skills for IV procedures, blood pressure checks, injections and medical procedures.
  • Displays a friendly, positive attitude and communicates with patients, families, physicians and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written.
  • Must move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift.
  • Must follow good body mechanics.
  • Ability to collect thorough information regarding patient's condition and evaluate effects of care; must be able to visually inspect patient's condition.
  • Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, assess, evaluate short term and long-term memory.
  • Must be able to assess patients and nursing staff by visual observation.
  • Hear patients in person and on the telephone and be able to verbally respond.
  • Must be able to feel to take blood pressure and pulse.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and abstract all trauma patients meeting state and ACS inclusion criteria.
  • Enter, validate, and maintain trauma registry data in accordance with state and national requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of trauma registry data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Submit required trauma data to state and national repositories within established timelines.
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports to support trauma program operations and performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in trauma performance improvement activities.
  • Conduct medical record reviews and data audits to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Coordinators to monitor identified patient care concerns.
  • Assist with regulatory readiness, verification activities, and trauma program evaluations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trauma standards, evidence-based practice, and registry requirements.
