Key Position Details:
1.0 FTE NP/PA Trauma and General Surgery
Locations: Mercy/Unity hospitals
10-hour shifts day/evening/night (group rotates coverage of various shifts)
Occasional weekends
Mostly surgical work; no clinic
General Surgery work includes OR, patient rounding, elective & ACS

Requirements

• Master's degree - Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program
• Licensed Physician Assistant - MN Board of Medical Practice or Licensed Nurse Practitioner - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
• ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
• Certification as Physician Assistant - NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) or equivalent Nurse Practitioner certification required upon hire
• Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
• ATLS - Advanced Trauma Life Support from American College of Surgeons required upon hire

Nice To Haves

• 3 years experience. Consideration will be given to lesser experienced applicants and new grads if prior knowledge of trauma care is demonstrated

Responsibilities

• Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a Physician/Physician Assistant team in accordance with the designated specialty.
• Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team.
• Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.
• Provides clinical care for patients
• Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
• Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
• Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
• Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
• Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
• Refers for specialty care when determined.
• Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
