About The Position

Kent Hospital, a Care New England hospital, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible General Surgeon with fellowship training in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery to join their surgical department. This role involves helping to shape the future of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Kent Hospital as they work towards becoming a Level II Trauma Center. The position offers a diverse clinical practice including trauma, acute care surgery, and elective general surgery, with access to the Intuitive XI robotic platform. The successful candidate will have opportunities for teaching medical students and will hold an academic appointment. The service is supported by 24/7 APC coverage. This is an ideal opportunity for a collaborative surgeon interested in practicing broad-spectrum acute care surgery and elective general surgery, and who wishes to play an integral role in the development of the Level II Trauma Program.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Rhode Island
  • ATLS certification required (or ability to obtain)
  • Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, quality improvement, and patient-centered care

  • Interest in trauma systems development and program growth strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage acute care surgery consultations
  • Perform operative and non-operative management of trauma patients
  • Provide timely surgical care for emergency general surgery conditions
  • Participate in trauma activations and acute care surgery call coverage
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Support trauma program development through protocol development, quality initiatives, and education
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement activities
