About The Position

Knowledge of operating waste handling equipment for the collection, sorting, and disposal of refuse and recyclables. As a trash tech for the Budd group at High Point University, you will be responsible for a list of duties which will include cleaning, organizing, vacuuming, sweeping, etc. You should be able to manage your time well. Your daily responsibilities will include removing trash from the trash chutes within all buildings, removing the dumpster from the compactor and putting it in its proper place outside for our trash company to pick up, and hooking up a new dumpster to the compactor. You will walk all trash chute rooms on each floor throughout the buildings to ensure they are empty (If not, you will remove the trash by hand or throw it down the chute). You will sweep up around the compactor to ensure that your area stays clean. Each Thursday, our dumpsters are not scheduled for pick up so these days are set for a “deep clean” of each trash room. You will have your own assigned trash room that you will be responsible for. You will use our provided cleaners to clean underneath and around the compactor as well as the sensors and the trash room floors to keep everything clean and to help contain the smell. All of your dumpster duties should be completed by 10:00 AM. Once all of the tasks above have been completed, you will refer to your assigned building for that day and check in with the janitor in that building to see what they will need help with (either vacuuming the halls or helping sweep/mop the stairwells). It is important to note that you will be working closely with our other trash techs during the early morning hours and you will also work independently into the later morning hours. It is also important to note that you should be able to communicate well with your coworkers, supervisor(s), and manager(s). General Cleaner cleans bathrooms, conference room, meeting rooms, space etc., vacuuming carpet, wet mopping Floors, trash removal, dusting, glass cleaning, stocking restroom supplies, soap & towel dispensers, other duties as needed. Self-motivated, able to perform the duties of the job without supervision. Dependable and neat in appearance. Operates various types of equipment and machinery, which include wet vacuums, hand trucks, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, etc. Assists in the completion of the workload in the absence of other service workers. Reports any malfunctions / maintenance problems to the supervisor. Discusses work problems and/or schedule problems with supervisor and / or management. May be required to lock and / or unlock doors. Attends training meetings and sessions as directed.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must have the ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification

Nice To Haves

  • Previous general and/or janitorial cleaning experience preferred
  • May have on-call responsibilities
