About The Position

This role is pivotal in ensuring effective governance and strategic oversight across the underwriting functions within the Americas Region. As a Transversal Underwriting & Governance Lead in the Americas Office of the CUO, you will play a key role in developing, implementing, and monitoring governance frameworks, policies, and controls that support strategic underwriting priorities. You will collaborate closely with underwriting teams, risk management, compliance, and other stakeholders to uphold governance standards and ensure alignment with regional and global directives. This role requires a proactive approach to governance oversight, including quarterly governance reporting, KPI tracking, risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to compliance standards. Your organizational and analytical skills will underpin your ability to provide insights, facilitate governance meetings, and drive continuous improvement in governance practices. You will build relationships across functions and levels within the organization, gaining exposure to senior leadership and contributing to the overall governance health of the region.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in governance, risk management, compliance, underwriting or underwriting operations within the insurance or financial services industry
  • Understanding of underwriting governance frameworks, regulatory standards, and internal control processes.
  • Proven ability to lead governance reporting, KPIs, and quarterly governance cycles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex governance information clearly.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in data analysis, trend identification, and process improvement.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and governance reporting tools.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee regional governance frameworks, policies, and procedures aligned with global standards and regional regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quarterly governance reviews, including preparation of governance reports, KPIs, and compliance metrics, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to senior management and governance committees.
  • Facilitate and coordinate quarterly governance asks, ensuring actionable items, risk assessments, and control improvements are tracked and completed.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs related to underwriting quality, risk adherence, data integrity, and governance effectiveness; analyze trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, risk, compliance, and audit teams to embed governance practices into daily operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct regular assessments of underwriting authority adherence, mandatory exclusions, data quality, and file documentation, supporting audit and review processes.
  • Support the development and delivery of governance training and awareness initiatives across the region.
  • Assist in the design and facilitation of governance meetings, workshops, and reporting dashboards.
  • Analyze and coordinate underwriting requests from AXA Group, Business Partners, and the Global Chief Underwriting Office, and liaise with necessary stakeholders.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve governance processes, risk controls, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Assume additional governance-related responsibilities as needed to support the organization’s risk and compliance objectives.
