About The Position

Provides timely transport of patients and delivers specimens and equipment to and from all areas of the hospital in accordance with established practices and standards. The role involves responding to assignments, checking patient ID bands, assessing patient needs before moving, securing equipment, and assisting with transfers. The transporter also escorts patients, transports charts, specimens, equipment, and supplies, and monitors trip information via an automated patient tracking system. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining department equipment and supplies, reporting equipment malfunctions, and assisting with cleaning equipment areas. The role requires responding appropriately to emergencies, working effectively as a team member, and interacting courteously with patients, families, and hospital staff. Maintaining confidentiality, adhering to policies, and ensuring a safe environment are crucial. The position also involves completing required training, participating in performance improvement and safety programs, and providing coverage for relief and absences, including night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Requirements

• Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the adolescence, adult, and/or geriatric patient as specialty assignment dictates

Responsibilities

• Provides timely transport of patients, specimens and equipment in accordance with established practices and standards.
• Responds to assignments and provides timely transport of patients (via wheelchair, beds or stretcher) throughout the hospital.
• Checks ID band prior to transporting patients.
• Assesses patient’s needs before each lift, move or ambulation for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury when dealing with all age groups.
• Secures proper equipment and assists in transferring patients into beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers utilizing proper techniques.
• Provides patient escort services as needed.
• Transports charts, specimens, records, equipment and supplies to and from department in a safe and timely manner.
• Monitors and obtains trip information via the automated patient tracking system.
• Accepts job in system and records job information in log report/system for referencing purposes.
• Cleans and assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner.
• Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
• Assists with cleaning and maintenance of equipment areas/rooms (includes supplies, equipment, beds).
• Assists in care and maintains equipment and supplies utilized during transports.
• Cleans equipment after use and returns to proper storage area when no longer needed.
• Responds appropriately to emergency situations and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
• Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction.
• Informs nursing and transportation of any incidents/problems.
• Assists personnel when needed by performing tasks to keep department operating at peak efficiency levels.
• Maintains required department records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
• Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information.
• Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality and Compliance Policies).
• Maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and personnel.
• Adheres to established department policies, procedures, objectives, compliance/quality improvement with consideration given to risk management, infection control practices and patient safety practices.
• Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
• Participates in facility performance improvement and safety programs.
• Provides coverage for relief and absences.
• Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday shift to provide continuous Transportation coverage as required.
