About The Position

This role is responsible for transporting patients, specimens, and equipment throughout the facility. It involves safely moving patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, including those requiring medical equipment. The position also assists patients with mobility and delivers necessary items to various departments. The role requires constant alertness and a safe working manner, with potential duties including cleaning and disinfecting hospital equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • No experience required
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Safely transports patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds to designated locations, including those requiring medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, IV pumps, and monitors.
  • Assists patients with entering and exiting vehicles and transferring to or from wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Delivers medical equipment and specimens to staff or departments.
  • May assist with transporting deceased patients to the morgue.
  • Greets and provides information and direction to patients and visitors.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • May clean and disinfect hospital equipment, including intravenous pumps, drips, and monitors, using established cleaning guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
