About The Position

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, a 198-bed non-profit facility, is seeking a Patient Transporter to provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across the campus, ensuring a highly customer-sensitive and seamless experience. The role involves promptly and safely transporting inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas, confirming patient identification, assisting in transferring patients, and observing patient condition during transport. The transporter will also maintain a clean work area and report malfunctioning equipment. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to patient safety and exceptional customer service, with attentiveness, efficiency, and high standards of care and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • High School GED
  • American Heart Association-issued Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CT CPRBLS)

Responsibilities

  • Promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas.
  • Meticulously confirm patient identification.
  • Greet and assist in transferring patients.
  • Make conscious observations of patient condition during transport, reporting any issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Respond quickly to calls for patient transportation.
  • Check with nursing personnel before transporting a patient to identify any special requirements.
  • Make positive identification of the location when transporting patients and/or medications and deliver correctly and promptly to that location.
  • Understand and use proper lifting techniques when assisting patients.
  • Routinely use safe and effective techniques to handle equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, oxygen carts, etc.
  • Seek help when necessary to handle multiple equipment tasks.
  • Assist nursing departments and/or Diagnostic Imaging Department in providing direct patient care in situations such as changing bed linen and/or patient gowns, cleaning up patients and maintaining patient hygiene, providing nourishment to patients when requested.
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment (wheelchairs and stretchers) by notifying maintenance when equipment is in need of repair.
  • On a routine or scheduled basis, clean all wheelchairs and stretchers that are being used to transport patients.
  • Assist staff in keeping patients informed regarding their wait-times for procedures and/or getting back to their rooms.
