About The Position
Deep Creek Youth Academy accommodates 117 males aged 12–19 across multiple overlay programs—including IMH, CMH, SAOS, MHOS, BDD/DD, and medically complex care. Delivered within a trauma‑informed, 24/7 residential setting, youth receive individualized clinical services such as Skill Streaming, Living in Balance, MRT, and Impact of Crime, alongside therapeutic recreation, life skills training, and restorative justice. Onsite nursing, psychiatric care, licensed dietitian meals, incentive systems, and Youth Advisory Board input foster engagement. Length of stay is tied to treatment progress, criminogenic risk reduction, and readiness to reintegrate. We are hiring a Transporter to support transportation services at Deep Creek Youth Academy. This role is ideal for individuals with safe driving experience, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for youth. You will transport youth to and from the program and other activities, maintain vehicles, and assist staff in ensuring youth safety during transport.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior safe driving experience and proven safe driving record
- Ability to relate to a wide diversity of youth and adults
- Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and meet state criminal background check requirements.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Must meet requirements for YOI’s auto insurance and be authorized to drive for business purposes.
Nice To Haves
- Two years’ work experience with youth preferred
- Familiarity with residential treatment or youth programs
Responsibilities
- Provide scheduled transportation services for youth to and from the program and other activities as needed
- Assist in developing and maintaining efficient pick-up and delivery route schedules
- Operate vans and other vehicles safely and in accordance with YOI policies and traffic laws
- Maintain, inspect, clean, and perform basic operator-level maintenance on assigned vehicles
- Complete vehicle safety checklists before and after each use
- Supervise youth during transport and ensure safe behavior
- Report unsafe vehicle issues or incidents immediately
- Maintain high standards of role model behavior for youth
- Maintain contact with program staff during transport, without operating the vehicle while using a phone
- Participate in training and development activities as required
- Report any acts or conditions that may indicate inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth interactions
- Perform other duties as assigned
