Transports patients to and from various areas providing safe and effective patient care as necessary. Responsibilities include transporting patients to and from various areas, sharing workload with peers, assisting others in transporting patients as needed, and performing patient care services as scheduled. The role requires validating travel status and patient needs prior to transporting, ensuring patients are transported to designated areas within the required timeframe, and practicing Universal Precautions and aseptic techniques. The transporter is responsible for providing a clean patient care environment, introducing themselves to patients, and strictly adhering to transportation policies for safe patient transport. Effective communication is key, including communicating patient/family healthcare needs to appropriate providers, reporting patient care needs to supervisors, informing supervisors of delays, keeping transport information updated, communicating variances and significant events, and collaborating with other disciplines for efficient quality care. The role also involves maintaining supplies and equipment for the assigned area, monitoring and stocking film and chemistry in dark rooms, and notifying supervisors of low stock levels for patient care supplies.
