This posting is for a Transportation Worker II in the Traffic Services Sign Unit in Division 10. This position will perform work in Mecklenburg County. This position will serve as a sign erector, installing, removing and maintaining signs, signposts, delineators, and hardware and must have the ability to lift signs. Worker shall possess ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signs and other traffic control devices. Employee must comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment. Employees will operate a medium duty truck as well as a variety of hand and power tools. Employee must function under a variety of environmental/weather conditions which include, but not limited to, extreme cold and heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and oils. Applicant shall be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform assigned tasks. Applicant shall be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Employee will be subject to be on call for many types of traffic-related emergencies after regular hours. Worker shall possess the ability to work under conditions of exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction. Safety toe shoes are required. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Must also be able to operate equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT drug testing and post offer employment evaluation. You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least three years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

  • Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire
