About The Position

This posting is for a Transportation Worker II in the Stanly County Maintenance Unit. This role focuses on maintaining and repairing state-maintained roads in Stanly County. Daily work includes setting up work zones, installing traffic control devices, repairing asphalt, clearing debris, assisting with drainage and pipe installation, and operating various equipment. The job also involves manual labor and responding to emergencies like snow, ice, and downed trees. It requires working in difficult terrain and weather, lifting up to 50 lbs., and being available for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call backs. Pre-employment drug testing and a background check with previous employers regarding controlled substances and alcohol testing are required. Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT drug testing and post offer employment evaluation.

Requirements

  • Ability to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date
  • Pre-employment drug testing required
  • Completion and signing of a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing
  • Successful completion of NCDOT drug testing and post offer employment evaluation
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and three years of experience operating equipment directly related to the field of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire
  • Safety toe shoes are required

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies
  • Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures
  • Experience in at least two pieces of equipment - asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher, backhoe, crack sealing machine, force feed loader, forklift, front end loader, motor grader, skid steer, sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor excavator
  • Experience in snow and ice removal operations
  • Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching
