About The Position

The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is seeking a Transportation Worker to join its team in Region 4 (Eastern Maine), located in Eddington, ME. This role is essential for keeping Maine's roadways and bridges safe and effective, contributing to the movement of Mainers across the state. Transportation Workers are on the front lines of roadwork, performing tasks such as road repair and culvert replacement in the summer, and plowing in the winter. The position involves long hours in all types of weather to ensure the safety of state roads, bridges, and highways. The work changes with the seasons, offering opportunities to learn new skills, and no two days are exactly the same. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification
  • Pass a State-paid Medical examination that includes a drug test
  • Pass the Department’s Respirator fit test
  • Possess a Class C State of Maine license by the first day of employment
  • Obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period
  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time
