About The Position

The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is seeking a Transportation Worker to join their team in Region 4 - Eastern Maine, specifically in Cherryfield, ME. This role is essential for keeping roadways and bridges safe and effective, contributing to the movement of Mainers safely from point A to point B. Transportation Workers are on the front lines of roadwork, performing tasks such as road repair and culvert replacement in the summer, and plowing in the winter. The job involves long hours in all types of weather. The daily tasks vary with the seasons, providing opportunities to learn new skills. MaineDOT offers paid Commercial Driving License (CDL) training and Snowfighter training, with automatic promotional opportunities as employees gain more skills and experience.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age
Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification
Pass a State-paid Medical examination that includes a drug test
Pass the Department’s Respirator fit test
Possess a Class C State of Maine license by the first day of employment
Obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period
Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months
Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time

Responsibilities
