About The Position

This is a split Transportation Worker position. This Position will serve on a Waldoboro based Railroad Crew in summer, responsible for maintaining state owned railroads, bridges, and buildings. Summer work involves Statewide travel and required overnight stay-away and overtime, the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties and will also serve on the Waldoboro or Edgecomb Maintenance Crew out of Region 2 in winter. In winter the responsibilities of this position will align with other Region 2 Transportation Worker duties and will include plowing snow and responding to emergencies typical to MaineDOT's normal operations. Winter work also includes the use and preventative maintenance of hand power tools and related heavy equipment to perform assigned duties and may require long hours of work. The incumbent must be able to be reached by landline/cell phone during off-duty hours in case of emergency or unscheduled work and must live within a reasonable distance from winter headquarters. May require long hours of work. Work is performed under direct supervision. Preference will be given to applicants with rail experience.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to work at a higher class as necessary and in accordance with required licenses and/or certification.
  • State-paid Medical examination that includes a drug test.
  • Department’s Respirator fit test.
  • Class C State of Maine license by first day of employment.
  • Shall obtain and retain a valid Class B State of Maine license during the initial six-month probationary period.
  • Ability to become a certified snow fighter within 12 months.
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within a specified amount of time.
  • Under federal law, only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents, or H-2A, H-2B, or E-2 visa holders will be eligible for new or renewed CDLs.
