This position performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. The role involves operating various motorized highway maintenance equipment, making repairs to highways and structures, and maintaining equipment. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program, with progression dependent on hours completed, proficiency, training, and obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads, which may require employees to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice.
