The Transportation Worker 3 Equipment Operator will report to the Subsurface Investigation supervisor at Materials Control, Soils & Testing Division. Position will work as part of a crew performing core drilling throughout the state, and frequent travel is required. Under general supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. Makes minor mechanical repairs in the field such as changing tires, blades, hoses, or filters. Responsible for maintaining equipment maintenance including but not limited to cleaning and lubricating equipment and checking fluid levels. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs related work as required, including flagging, erects traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects, and shoveling materials. Performs other related duties as required. The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL ). The WVDOT is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of over 35,000 miles of state roads. This duty may necessitate employees working irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and more than 40 hours per week, occasionally without prior notice .
