This position performs full-performance level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include operating motorized highway maintenance equipment, making major and minor repairs to highways, culverts, and bridge structures, and performing equipment maintenance. The role also involves flagging, erecting traffic control signs and barricades, shoveling materials, cleaning culverts, mowing, and brush cutting. Employees may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. This position is part of a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program, with progression dependent on hours completed, proficiency, training, and obtaining a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The WVDOT is responsible for state roads, and this role may require irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and overtime, sometimes without prior notice.
