About The Position

The City of Milwaukie is seeking dedicated, skilled individuals to join their Transportation Team as a Transportation Utility Technician II. This is a journey-level classification that offers increased complexity, greater independence, and regular use of heavy equipment. As a Technician II, you will perform advanced maintenance and repair work on City streets and right-of-way infrastructure, taking direction from the lead utility technician. The position involves performing advanced street maintenance, including paving, patching, crack sealing, and surface treatments, as well as installing and maintaining signage, pavement markings, and traffic control devices in compliance with MUTCD standards. This role also involves serving as a lead worker in the absence of the Lead Utility Technician and assisting in training newer technicians in equipment operation, safety procedures, and inspection protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Oregon or Washington Class A CDL with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements
  • Road Scholar II certification
  • OSHA Confined Space, Competent Person, and Traffic Control certifications
  • FEMA Incident Command training (ICS 100 and 700) required within six months
  • Two (2) years of experience performing duties equivalent to Utility Technician I
  • Two (2) years of experience in road maintenance and repair methods
  • Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in on-call assignments if volunteer program is not fulfilled.

Responsibilities

  • Independently operating heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, and asphalt pavers.
  • Performing advanced street maintenance, including paving, patching, crack sealing, and surface treatments.
  • Installing and maintaining signage, pavement markings, and traffic control devices in compliance with MUTCD standards.
  • Serving as a lead worker in the absence of the Lead Utility Technician.
  • Assisting in training newer technicians in equipment operation, safety procedures, and inspection protocols.
