As a Transportation Technician with the Department of Transportation, you support the quality checks that keep our roads reliable and construction on track. DESCRIPTION OF WORK Transportation Technicians support quality inspections and testing that help keep transportation projects on track. This role focuses on verifying that materials meet required standards and documenting findings accurately. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties: Material Testing Assistance: Assist with ensuring accuracy of test procedures and laboratory reports Shipment Observation: Observe material deliveries and review weigh slips for accuracy Quality Monitoring: Witness technicians conducting tests at various plants and quarries Sampling Documentation: Record sampling and testing methods properly and report issues promptly Compliance Review: Apply correct testing methods and review supplier compliance Quality Assurance: Ensure vendors follow quality control plans and complete required reports Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work closely with vendors, and work hours may change based on vendor availability. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Requirements

  • One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid PA Class C driver's license or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
