Requirements

  • Possess transportation experience including loading of trailers and store delivery procedures.
  • Possess basic knowledge of schedule function.
  • Ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • Possess good communication skills, including public relations skills with Company and outside personnel.
  • Requires analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.
  • Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced, hectic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience driving diesel-powered tractors helpful.
  • General knowledge of EDP applications and computer capabilities helpful.
  • Prior experience with personal computer applications helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Transportation Department activities and associates on one shift to ensure that all functions are performed within Company, Distribution Center, and Department guidelines.
  • Ensure that merchandise is delivered to stores in the best possible condition.
  • Work with Procurement and Traffic staff to coordinate backhauls.
  • Maintain pre-set delivery schedules for product movement; apprise management of scheduling problems and follow through per instructions.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure proper timing for delivery schedules.
  • Maintain good public relations with store management via telephone communications and store visits.
  • Maintain daily customer/driver communications log.
  • Ensure that all drivers abide by all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that all drivers follow correct check in/out procedures and perform required pre-trip safety checks.
  • Issue road tests as required.
