About The Position

The Transportation Supervisor plans, directs, monitors, and oversees daily operations to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable bus service for all PSTA customers. This role supervises Bus Operators and monitors adherence to routes, schedules, personnel, and operating rules and regulations, as well as PSTA’s attendance policy, while maintaining service quality standards to meet organizational goals and customer expectations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • At least 12 months’ transit experience.
  • A minimum of six months of that experience must be as a Bus Operator.
  • Experience in a position related to transit operations may be considered to meet the remaining six months' requirement.
  • Good, safe driving record, discipline record, and overall work record.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License Class B, with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements, in good standing.
  • No serious traffic violations or suspension of driver's license, and no DUIs for the previous seven years.
  • No more than seven points in the previous four years.
  • Must maintain a working phone number that can accept text messages.
  • Able to work nights, weekends, overtime, and as assigned.
  • Must attend all mandatory meetings as scheduled.
  • Zero disciplinary actions in the prior 12 months.
  • Fewer than 3 occurrences in the prior 12 months.
  • No more than 2 Miss Outs in the prior 12 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Supplemental education or training in business, transportation, safety, or a relevant area is preferred.
  • Graduation from the PSTA Transportation Supervisor Interim Program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Bus Operators and monitors adherence to routes, schedules, personnel, and operating rules and regulations, as well as PSTA’s attendance policy.
  • Assigns, schedules, and dispatches buses to ensure effective and efficient delivery of service, including scheduling Bus Operators according to the union contract to meet staffing requirements.
  • Monitors radio and AVL transmissions with Bus Operators to ensure the system is operating efficiently.
  • Reports unsafe road conditions and establishes detours to maintain service following accidents, breakdowns, or when routes are impassable.
  • Investigates and analyzes accidents to determine cause, reports findings, and recommends corrective actions.
  • Prepares operator disciplinary notices consistent with Authority policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, reviewing related issues with drivers to improve performance.
  • Prepares operator paperwork to facilitate next-day service and keeps accurate attendance records, including entering operator timekeeping into the computer.
  • Ments new Bus Operators, trains new and interim supervisors, and performs DART checks.
  • Performs bus rides with Operators and provides relief in emergencies, completing schedules as necessary.
  • Performs minor equipment repairs to ensure buses remain in safe operating condition.
  • Reports to work as an “essential employee” during emergency situations, disasters, or acts of nature.
  • Completes daily logs of activities to provide accurate, up-to-date information to management.
  • Develops and maintains clear instructional documents, templates, and standard operating procedures. Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Performs other functions as assigned.
