This posting is for a Transportation Supervisor I position within the Forsyth County Maintenance Unit. This position will perform a wide range of tasks to include supervising a crew of subordinates and inmate labor while performing various operations related to roadway maintenance activities. This position will calculate quantities of materials needed, document use of labor and equipment and materials used. The selected applicant must safely operate and supervise the operation of various pieces of equipment as assigned. Additional duties will include conducting and documenting tailgate safety meetings as necessary as well as complying and participating in the Unit’s Safety Program. May be utilized to answer or respond to after-hours and emergency calls as needed. Additional Expectations: Safety-toed shoes required. This position will be responsible for transporting inmates for work detail. An inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety must be issued to NCDOT employees to transport inmates. In order to obtain an inmate card applicants must undergo a criminal history check, complete necessary training and orientation, and be at least 21 years of age. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.
